Weather Warning
Issued: 4 AM PDT Friday 9 May 2008 for the period ending 4 AM Saturday with an outlook for the following 24 hours.
Synopsis:
A weakening north to south ridge of high pressure near northern Vancouver Island this morning will drift east of the district by early this evening. An intense front will approach from the west to lie in a northwest to southeast line near the Queen Charlottes this evening and the central coast overnight.
Over north and central coast waters light winds near the Ridge will give way to gale to storm force southeasterlies later today with the approach of the front. Winds will ease to strong to gale force southerlies in the fronts wake.
Over southern waters light to moderate variable winds will give Way to moderate to strong southeasterlies later today with the fronts approach.

Forecast:
Strong wind warning in effect.
Northwest of Nanaimo..Winds variable 5 to 15 knots becoming southeast 5 to 15 this afternoon. Winds rising to southeast 15 to 25 this evening.
Southeast of Nanaimo..Winds variable 5 to 15 knots becoming southeast 5 to 15 this afternoon.
Increasing cloud today. Chance of showers tonight.
Outlook. Becoming light to moderate variable winds.
