Unit 12 Coast Guard Auxiliary Called Out Again
Vessel on the beach
CCGA - Pacific Unit 12 Halfmoon Bay was called out at 6:12 AM on August 29, 2008. A 33 foot vessel was aground in Anderson Bay on the south end of Texada Island. The vessel had been attempting to reach Jedediah Island on the previous night, but with gale southeast winds the skipper elected to anchor in Anderson Bay for the night. The sea was rough and the anchor didn't hold and the boat was washed aground. The captain and his wife and their dog went ashore in their dingy and set up camp for the night. In the morning they assessed their situation and, finding both props and rudders gone and the vessel taking on water, they contacted Comox Coast Guard Radio for help.'Ken Moore' arrived on the scene at 7:05 AM and was tasked to take the people and their dog back to Pender Harbour where they could arrange for the recovery of their vessel. Unit 12 returned to base at 9:45 AM, glad to be of assistance.
