Quiet Week, Busy Weekend for Unit 12 CCGA Unit 12
Derelict Boat found floating in Frenchman's Cove
Members of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, Unit 12, Halfmoon Bay spent the weekend at Coopers Green certifying or recertifying their Marine Advanced First Aid certificates. This is one of the requirements of being an auxiliarist and must be renewed at least every three years. After a day of lectures, bandaging each other and applying CPR, a crew was called out at 7:00 PM on Saturday, Oct 19, to locate a derelict vessel in
Frenchman's Cove. The vessel was found in the small bay near the old dock. It was submerged at the stern in 18 feet of water, 10 feet from shore, with
no visible markings, no 13k number, and no evidence of persons on board. The crew was stood down once it was established that there was no emergency. Members of the auxiliary then went home to work on their take-home exams and then returned to Cooper's Green the next day for a final day of training.
